THE CAT TALKS:  How to Use the Online Catalog

To locate specific courses click on Course Descriptions in the left navigation pane.  Clicking on Course Descriptions will display a list of all courses in the catalog by Department.  The Course Filter will narrow the number of courses displayed by specific filters.  Click on the all Prefixes Search to filter by Prefix, click on the Code or Number to get all courses with a specific code (i.e., all courses numbered 200).  Type refers to the department that is offering the course and you can also search by keyword which will be beneficial in locating interdisciplinary courses.  See The Cat Talks section on MY PORTFOLIO.

Academic Departments and Interdisciplinary Minors on the left navigation leads to a list of all departments that offer courses.  Not all departments offer majors or minors.  Some interdisciplinary departments (Environmental Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Latin American Studies) offer courses from various departments that count towards the major.  Check the department to determine if a major or a minor is offered.  See The Cat Talks Section on THE DEGREE PLANNER.

Interdisciplinary Minors:  Details are available under each interdisciplinary minor.  Interdisciplinary minors are neither majors nor minors.

Use the course filter to find courses that might not be listed in a department.  For example, Film and Media Studies course may be found by using FMS in the filter, Medical Humanities courses = MHU and Ethics courses = ETH.
