FRE 490 - Senior Major Seminar: The Second French Colonial Empire (1830-1960)

Historical, literary, cultural, and artistic overview of the French Colonial Empire from the Conquest of Algeria (1830) to decolonization (1960). We examine France’s colonial politics and the politics of decolonization through documents and texts describing colonized territories and peoples, as well as artistic and literary productions from the colonies. Offered in the fall semester and required of majors.
