HIS 367 - Comparative Slavery: Africa, America, and the Caribbean

This course compares and contrasts systems of slavery and slave experiences from classical antiquity to the making of slave societies in the nineteenth century. Covering the themes of old world slavery, colonial slave systems, slave societies, slavery and gender, and slave soldiers, the course seeks to demonstrate how and why the institution of slavery changed over time and why it was different from place to place.
