ENG 388 - Contemporary Theatre

Instructor
Fox

Contemporary Drama… from the fractious family to gender-bending, from “get the guests” to war games, from witch trials to viral videos, from pill-poppin’ mamas to political dramas…we’ll encounter all of these kinds of adventures and more. This course will examine the origins and development of contemporary theatre in the Western tradition, post-1960, with an emphasis on American and British drama. We will examine, in particular, developments arising in political theatre, postmodern theatre, and the ways in which recent theatre has become a site for community discourse about the American dream, family, race, immigration, gender, sexuality, war, and social networking…among other topics.
