BIO 356 - Diversity & Extinction Analysis

Instructor
K. Smith

This group investigation will focus on the question, “Why do species go extinct?”  We will conduct literature reviews of recent and prehistoric extinction events to understand the extinction process, and will compile extinction data and develop new analytical tools to characterize the recent dramatic increase in extinction rates.  Issues such as extinction bias, random extinction, and the prediction of future extinctions will be addressed in a group project.

Prerequisites & Notes
Successful completion of BIO 112/114 and BIO 227 or BIO 321 is required.  Completion of BIO 240/241 is recommended.
