SOC 260 - Social Statistics

Sociologists and others who are interested in describing and interpreting social phenomena often rely on statistical data collected in surveys, opinion polls, census, etc. Making sense of such data, which is often composed of large numbers of observations, requires familiarity with statistical techniques for summarizing the data, representing it graphically, and exploring relationships between different variables. This course provides an introduction to quantitative data analysis in sociology and other social sciences. Topics include descriptive measures, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, chi-square, correlation, and regression. The course also focuses on computer applications through the use of SPSS software.
