FRE 220 - Portraits of Women in Literature

Instructor
Hope

What is a portrait in literature and what does it look like? And how is the woman typically described in literature? Does her portrayal change according to the author’s gender? Has the woman’s portrait changed over the years? This course will encourage students to explore these questions and others they might have regarding women’s portrayal in French and Francophone Literature. Toward the end of the semester students will read a short book, but the literature used in this course will also encompass short stories, poetry and theatre. Coursework will be in French.
