ENG 201 - Intro to the Essay Instructor
Ingram
This course combines elements of literary history, literary analysis, and creative writing. It traces the essay as a genre from its origins to the present; it examines closely essays from across the centuries, with an emphasis on more recent texts; and it includes a series of writing workshops for refining students’ own attempts-the word “essay” meaning “attempt.” By the end of the course, students will have an overview of the field of essays and a sense how their writing might both draw from and contribute to that field.
Satifies the Literary Studies, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric requirement.
