GRE 333 - Greek Drama: Aristophanes’ Frogs

We will read in Greek the whole of Aristophanes’ Frogs. Along the way, we will consider the work’s value as a piece of early literary criticism, explore evidence for the nature and purpose of ritual comic performance at Athens, and confront and unpack the sometimes shockingly different cultural norms and stereotypes presented by this play.

Satisfies the Literary Studies, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric requirement.
Counts towards the major in Classical Languages and Literature, and as an elective for the major in Classical Studies.
Counts towards the Global Literary Theory and Greek minors, and as an elective for the minor in Classical Studies.
