SPA 407 - Medicine and Gender in 20th Century Spain

In this course, we will analyze the medical discourse in fiction and non-fiction texts insomuch as it creates the framework for constructing and justifying definitions of gender and sexuality. We will focus on the first half of the 20^th century, particularly the Second Republic (1931-1936), the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), and the Franco Dictatorship (1939-1975). We will consider both liberal and conservative viewpoints as well as contemporary perspectives.

Prerequisites & Notes
Completion of a 300-level course in Spanish, or permission of the instructor. Limited to juniors and seniors. Priority will be given to majors, then minors.
