HIS 473 - Thinking About Asia

An exploration of the construction of the Asian “Other” in the West.  The class considers the emergence, exercise and shifts in orientalist thought concerning East Asia, as well as the intellectual foundations of identity formation and its relationship to the exercise of power by the nation-state. 

Major credit in History, International Studies and Asian Studies interdisciplinary minors.
