AFR 305 - Major Thinkers in Africana Studies: Cedric Robinson & Sylvia Wynter Instructor
Dougé-Prosper
The course is designed to expose students to classical and foundational figures who have contributed to shaping major debates, theories, or methodological approaches to this interdisciplinary field. More broadly, the objective of the course is to enable students to gain competency in the primary, secondary, biographical, theoretical, and literary scholarship as it relates to the study of two major thinkers in the Africana intellectual tradition.
In particular, this course focuses on the works of Black Marxist Cedric Robinson and anti-colonial feminist Sylvia Wynter who offer us key theoretical frameworks and concepts to understand the racial order that underpins modern capitalism. In this course, we also discuss the production of organic and academic intellectuals who draw from these thinkers
