AFR 224 - Special Topics in Africana Fall 2020: Readings on Slavery, Universities and Complex Legacies
This course will expose students to the existing literature on the growing historical field, develop a common language for situating Davidson within the literature, and in their final projects, craft possible creative solutions for reconciling the legacy of the institutional slavery for current communities.
Spring 2021 Readings on African American Memory
This course focuses on how African Americans chose to remember the campus history of slavery, emancipation and race relations through sustaining counter memory and how and its legacy for the African American community on campus and in surrounding communities. It will really focus on what happened after slavery for enslaved campus laborers of Davidson College, their descendants, and the campus community.
Prerequisites & Notes Fulfills the Historical and Geographical Investigations requirement for the Africana Studies major.
Fulfills the Historical Thought requirement.
