REL 177 - Islamic Ethics

A survey of Islamic ethics that often zooms into a particular aspect, this course attempts to offer an overview of Islam ethical thought and life. What do seminal and representative Muslim thinkers and texts have to say about the meaning and purpose of human life? How do various facets of Islamic life and thought such as revelation, prophetic example, piety, law, philosophy, theology, literature, and spirituality inform leading a good human life? What role does religion play in ethical life? What’s the role of politics? What difference does centrality of God make to living a good life and envisioning an ideal society?
