SPA 260 - Conversation and Composition

In this course, students will improve their oral and written communication in Spanish, as well as deepen their knowledge of and approach to the Spanish-speaking world. A variety of readings and digital media (e.g., films, shorts, videos, podcasts) will be the starting point for conversations and as well as written and oral assignments, which will include both informal and academic registers. 

Our topic for the semester will be human rights and social justice in the contemporary Spanish-speaking world, including Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. Topics may include racial justice, immigration, violence against women, reproductive rights, political oppression, LGBTQ+ rights, responsible use of resources, and linguistic rights.

Conducted in Spanish. Requires a conversation session with an Apprentice Teacher once a week. This course should be taken before 271 and/or 272, and is strongly recommended for students planning to study abroad.

Counts towards the major and minor in Hispanic Studies.

Spanish 201 or its equivalent.
