ENV 349 - Paleoclimatology

This course will present an overview of methods used to reconstruct earth’s climate over geologic time. Repositories of proxy records will be explored. Topics covered include: orbital cycles and the ice ages; Earth as a snowball; the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, the Younger Dryas, and ice cores, tree rings, speleothems, lake sediments and pollen. This knowledge will help students answer the why/how we know that climate is changing.

Satisfies Environmental Studies major and minor requirement.
