ENV 332 - Mercury Contamination

Instructor
Ulus

Mercury (Hg) is a global pollutant due to its capability to be transferred in the atmosphere for long distances, its transformation to methylmercury (MeHg), the most toxic form, and bioaccumulation and biomagnification in the terrestrial and aquatic food webs. Throughout the last few decades, significant progress has been made in understanding the fate and transport of mercury in diverse ecosystems. This course will focus on recent research and review papers on mercury pollution and its drivers in water, sediment, and foodweb. The course will also help students to understand treatment technologies for mercury pollution in soil and water.
