SPA 401 - US/Mexico Border Cinema

This discussion-intensive, interdisciplinary course will explore the cinematic representations of the U.S.-Mexico border region. This semester students will examine the socio-historical process, and perceptions through which border images have been constructed and shaped over time. Through an analysis of relevant films from the silent era to the present, we will engage in the study of historical themes and social issues arising between the U.S. and Mexico through a diversity of cinematographic genres and ideological perspectives. 

A substantial final research project will be required. Conducted in Spanish.
