SPA 260 - Conversation and Composition

In this course, students will improve their oral and written communication in Spanish, as well as deepen their knowledge of and approach to the Spanish-speaking world. A variety of readings and digital media (e.g., films, shorts, videos, podcasts) will be the starting point for conversations and as well as written and oral assignments, which will include both informal and academic registers. 

 

This course examines the relationship between immigration and the “American Dream” in the contemporary United States. Through a human rights framework, we will analyze the diverse experiences of immigrant communities, focusing on key topics like the right to dignified work, linguistic rights, and the dynamics of cultural identity and social integration.

Conducted in Spanish. Requires a conversation session with an Apprentice Teacher once a week. This course should be taken before 271 and/or 272, and is strongly recommended for students planning to study abroad.

Counts towards the major and minor in Hispanic Studies.

Spanish 201 or its equivalent.
