Delve into the dynamic world of curatorial and collection practices with Davidson College’s innovative, project-based course. Explore art collection methodologies from public and private institutions worldwide, understanding their historical frameworks and alignment with contemporary directions in art curation. In line with modern museum and gallery trends emphasizing the rich diversity of their audiences, students will engage hands-on with Davidson’s art collection. Through collaborative deliberation and application of industry standards for art acquisition, students will investigate potential artworks, liaise with gallery owners, and make democratic decisions consistent with the College and Galleries’ art acquisition policy. The course culminates in an exhibition that contextualizes and celebrates the newly acquired artworks.

Prerequisites & Notes Two art history courses. ART 234 Post Modern Art is recommended.
