FMS 150 - Films That Change Us: Global Cinema from Kurosawa to Korean Horror

Instructor
Jackson

This class is an introduction to an entire world of movies whose fresh and unpredictable stories have moved global audiences and expanded the possibilities of cinema. We will focus on important non-Western directors like Akira Kurowsawa-whose work shaped science fiction, film noir, and samurai movies-as well as vibrant genres such as Hong Kong action films, Japanese anime, and Korean horror. Each week we will watch and discuss influential films from the 1940s through the present day, learning about the rich cinematic histories of countries including China, Japan, India, Thailand, Iran, Senegal, and more.
