AFR 307 - Major Thinkers: Beatriz Nascimento

This course intends to expose students to classical and foundational figures whose work have helped shape the disciplinary debates, theoretical contours, or methodological innovations of the field. By studying the life and work of Beatriz Nascimento, as both an activist and intellectual, this course will offer us key frameworks and concepts related to the Black Atlantic, Black Feminism, and Black liberation, particularly from a transnational and hemispheric perspective.

This course will engage with the author’s translated work (from Portuguese to English), as well as the work of scholars and activists influenced by the theoretical contributions of Nascimento.
