This is a production-oriented course that introduces students to various aspects of small-press and artist’s-book production, including flat and folded book structures, ‘zines and chapbooks, and artists’ books. Through theoretical and craft-oriented readings, and by exploring materials in Special Collections and the VAC, students will consider such questions as how material form intersects with literary content, how small-press and artists’-book production stands in relation to social and historical contexts, and how the material form of the book may respond to (and incorporate) emerging media.
Satisfies English major and minor requirement.
Satisfies Literary Studies, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric requirement.
