MAT 108 - Exploring Mathematical Ideas

Instructor
Staff

Survey of abstract mathematical ideas that deepen understanding of patterns from mathematics, art, and the physical world. Topics may include the nature of number, infinity, dimension, symmetries, alternate geometries, topology, chaos, fractals, and probability. While techniques and concepts have much in common with advanced theoretical mathematics, little background is assumed and the course is not practical preparation for later courses in mathematics. The occasional title Exploring Mathematics in Art is adopted to show that special emphasis.
