ENG 486 - Seminar: William Faulkner

Instructor
Kuzmanovich

Gilles Deleuze argues that “[A] great writer is always like a foreigner in the language in which he expresses himself, even if this is his native tongue. […] He does not mix another language with his own language[;] he carves our a nonpreexistent foreign language within his own language. He makes the language itself scream, stammer, or murmur.”

For 15 weeks we will follow the carving and listen to the murmuring. We will also make every effort to visit his home in Oxford, MS, to experience first hand the thrill of “sublimating the actual into the apocryphal.”
