ENG 406 - Digital Design & Storytelling Instructor
Churchill
The digital revolution has opened humanities scholarship to new modes of producing and disseminating knowledge, resulting in the emergence of a new field: Digital Humanities. This team-taught seminar will emphasize four pillars of Digital Humanities: 1) design, 2) collaboration, 3) inclusivity, and 4) networks. We will form teams of 2-4 people to design research projects from initial conception to online publication via a WordPress website hosted in Davidson Domains, working together to redress critical biases and exclusions in scholarship. We will learn project design strategies, apply principles of UX-design, and integrate digital storytelling apps into our websites. We will use social media to network, connect with scholars in the field, and cultivate an audience for our projects. In the process, we will develop digital dexterity and skills in research, writing, design, teamwork, networking, and project management-skills are not only fundamental to digital humanities, but also sought after by employers outside academia.
