AFR 336 - Politics of Joy (=LAS 336)

Instructor
Castaneda

What is joy? What are the possibilities of collective joy? How does joy inform ideology and political actions, including protest and resistance? This course will engage with concepts like “Black joy,” “decolonial joy,” and “joyful militancy” in order to rethink the depth and power of joy, particularly amongst Black and other racialized and marginalized communities. We will engage with recent interdisciplinary scholarship in order to invite us to think of new epistemological and political stances shaped by and through joy.
