COM 203 - Communication Research Methods Instructor

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic theoretical and practical principles of quantitative/scientific and qualitative/interpretive research methods we use to study communication problems and processes. We will focus on the critical analysis, evaluation, and use of quantitative and qualitative communication research methods by forming research questions, working with resources such as academic journals, popular culture, and the internet. The goals of the course are to assist students in acquiring the ability to understand communication research methods, critique and analyze the value of communication research studies, and to conduct basic research to answer communication questions and solve communication problems. Students will gain experience with common research formats and a culminating opportunity to develop their own research proposals.
