Rationale for Course Numbering
All courses numbered below 100 are Pass/Fail and do not carry academic credit.
100-level courses are broad, introductory surveys that have no prerequisites nor require any previous musical training.
200-level courses are typically narrower in scope, focus on a particular style, genre, or musical culture, and, in a few cases, may require a prerequisite or previous musical training.
300-level courses are advanced courses, typically designed for music majors and requiring one or more prerequisite courses.
400-level courses are seminars for upper class majors.
